This is the first inelastic scattering type spectrometer of CSNS and the first medium-high energy inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer in China, which fills the gap in this field in our country.

According to reports, the high-energy inelastic spectrometer is one of the eight cooperative spectrometers for the construction of spallation neutron sources. after several years of tackling key problems, this instrument successfully produced the first neutron beam on January 12, 2023, which also marks the smooth completion of the development and installation of its equipment, and has entered the debugging stage.

According to the CTOnews.com query, the inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer can obtain the spatial distribution and energy change information of scattered neutrons at the same time, so it can measure the dynamic behavior of material microstructure in momentum and energy space, which is the most direct tool to study the elementary excitation phenomena of materials, such as lattice and spin dynamics.

The incident neutron energy range of this high-energy inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer is 10-1500 meV, and the best energy resolution can reach 3%.

In addition, it also provides a high and low temperature environment of 1.5 to 800 K and a magnetic field environment of up to 7T, and can realize fast switching between multi-wavelength mode and single-wavelength mode with the help of Fermi chopper and bandwidth chopper.
