CTOnews.com, Nov. 14 (Xinhua)-- Amazon has laid off about 180 people in its gaming division, the second round of layoffs in a week, Reuters reported. In April, the gaming division laid off about 100 people.

"after the initial restructuring in April, it is clear that we need to focus more resources on those areas of growth with the greatest potential to move our business forward," Christopher Hartman, vice president of Amazon Games, said in an email.

Amazon began notifying employees to remove jobs on Monday morning (US time), the second layoff in the department this year.

Amazon began laying off its streaming music and podcast divisions last week, as well as cutting a handful of jobs in its human resources department, Human experience and Technology (PXT), according to people familiar with the matter.

The gaming department rotates to provide digital versions of many games every month, as well as some Twitch channels and other services. Amazon said it remained focused on developing and distributing games such as Blue Protocol, as well as free games available within Prime Gaming.
