Motherboard is not compatible, LCD version of Steam Deck game handset does not support upgrading OLED screen

CTOnews.com, November 17, Valve recently released the OLED version of the Steam Deck game console, which not only upgraded the screen, but also almost redesigned the internal structure. So can the existing LCD Steam Deck host upgrade and replace the OLED screen?

Lawrence Yang, a product designer at Valve, gave a negative answer. CTOnews.com translated its tweet as follows: "We have made major internal changes and users cannot upgrade the OLED screen for the existing LCD model Steam Deck because of the incompatibility of the motherboard."

The report said that in addition to the differences in screen size, another important problem encountered by users upgrading OLED screens is that the connection type and power requirements are different.

CTOnews.com has previously reported changes in the internal design of the OLED version of the Steam Deck game handset. Steam Deck OLED uses the updated 6nm semi-custom AMD APU with a Zen 2 computing core and graphics core based on the RDNA 2 architecture.

At the same time, the processor retains the technical features of the LCD version of Steam Deck. The size of the updated APU is 12.26x10.82mm, while the size of the 7 nm chip in the LCD version console is 13.5x12.3mm.
