The study, based on the NetBlocks shutdown cost tool, highlights the growing dependence of the modern economy on the Internet. If no one is connected to the Internet, it is estimated that the US will lose $11 billion in one day and China will lose $9.9 billion, mainly due to disruptions in consumer spending, business operations and economic activity.

Japan and Britain are also expected to suffer major economic losses, with losses of 3 billion US dollars and 2.7 billion US dollars respectively. Germany will also suffer huge losses; it is estimated that a day without Internet access will cost the country $1.5 billion.
