This is a healthy and lively male orange cat, and its birth marks that our country has a complete industrial chain in the field of animal cloning. The cloned cat weighed 141 grams and was delivered naturally after 69 days of pregnancy by the surrogate cat, the report said.
According to Zhao Minghui, an associate professor at the school of life sciences at the university, cat somatic cloning requires higher equipment, reagents and consumables, and more elaborate operation. The successful birth of the cloned cat is not only an important progress in the field of animal cloning technology in China, but also a microcosm of the rapid development in the fields of high-end equipment manufacturing, precision processing and chemical industry.
The study began in 2020. At that time, when Zhao Minghui led the research team to conduct pig somatic cell cloning, he found that the frequent and unstable performance of imported drugs led to many problems in the experiment, so the team began to try to make domestic animal somatic cell cloning reagents, and basically completed the production of domestic reagents in June this year.
According to CTOnews.com 's previous report, at the beginning of this year, the dairy cow seed industry innovation team of Northwestern University of Agriculture and Forestry also successfully cultivated "cloned cow", which is the first time in China to use somatic cloning technology to restore and preserve 100 tons of fine individuals in the existing population, and to effectively breed improved dairy cows, realizing a new breakthrough in somatic cloning technology to play a core and key role in the breeding of improved dairy cows.
