Nokia launches a new generation of AirScale solution, jointly with operator NTT Docomo to deploy related 5G devices in Japan

CTOnews.com, November 21, Nokia announced yesterday that it is working with NTT docomo, Japan's largest telecom operator, to deploy a new generation of Nokia Open Radio access Network (RAN) 5G AirScale baseband solution in Japan's national commercial network.

Nokia claims that the new generation of AirScale communications solutions are supported by the latest ReefShark system chip technology, which brings sustainability advantages and lower operating costs to NTT Docomo because of its smaller footprint and lower power consumption.

"Nokia's O-RAN-compatible AirScale 5G baseband solution is highly competitive and can connect to any O-RU on the NTT Docomo 5G business network," said Masafumi Masuda, minister of wireless access development at NTT Docomo. Its high performance and low power consumption will also reduce our operating costs and support our sustainable development.

CTOnews.com noted that Nokia Communications launched a series of partnerships with NTT Docomo as early as the 3G era, while in the 4G era, Nokia also helped the operator develop a multi-supplier strategy.
