CTOnews.com, Nov. 26 (Xinhua)-- Neuralink, a brain-computer interface company founded by billionaire Elon Musk, received $43 million (CTOnews.com Note: about 307 million yuan) in venture capital in early August, according to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings.

The company increased its last tranche led by Peter Thiel's Founders Fund from $280 million to $323 million (currently about 2.309 billion yuan) in early August, according to documents released this week. According to the document, 32 investors were involved.

Neuralink, a company dedicated to developing implantable chips that can read brain waves, was founded in 2016. Brain signal reading implants have been around for decades, but the innovation of Neuralink is to make implants wireless and increase the number of electrodes implanted.

In May, Neuralink received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for human clinical trials and began recruiting the first human trials.

For nearly a year, Neuralink has been under federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for violations of animal welfare. USDA eventually concluded that there was "no evidence" of a violation of animal welfare in the company's trials. In November, Congress asked SEC to investigate Neuralink for withholding details of the deaths of at least a dozen animals implanted with its chips.
