Tesla Model Y is expected to overtake fuel cars for the first time to become the best-selling car in Europe this year.

CTOnews.com, November 27 (Xinhua) Tesla Model Y seems to be on track to become the best-selling car in Europe by 2023, according to Dataforce.

Tesla Model Y is already well ahead of its nearest competitor Dacia Sandero in sales in the first ten months of 2023. In addition, Tesla's sales are expected to increase in the last two months of this year, as Tesla usually makes large-scale deliveries at the end of each quarter and year.

If true, it would be the first time that electric cars (EV) have become the highest-selling car in Europe throughout the calendar year.

CTOnews.com noted that preliminary data released by Automotive News last week showed that Sandero was about 289 vehicles ahead of Model Y in sales so far this year. The figures include about 92 per cent of sales in the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the UK. However, another 8 per cent of sales were not counted at the time of the preliminary report, including Sweden, a key market. In Sweden, Model Y sold 14139 vehicles before October, compared with 1048 for Sandero.

With the addition of data from Sweden and other markets, Sandero lost its lead, with sales of 212517 Model Y and 197482 Sandero. Model Y accounted for about 73 per cent of Tesla's 291404 cars sold in Europe in the period ending in October.

The Model Y has become the best-selling car in Europe in six months, while the Sandero topped the list in January, April and October. In July, Volkswagen T-Roc won the championship.

Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive, said earlier this year that he expected the Model Y to become the best-selling car in the world.

Last month, Tesla's delivery in Europe reached the milestone of one million vehicles.
