The source said that Evernote will impose "strict restrictions" on free users: an account can only create one note and 50 pieces of content.
CTOnews.com November 28 news, according to foreign media TechCrunch reported that Evernote is making strict restrictions on free plans, forcing users to move to paid plans.
Some Evernote users received pop-up messages announcing that future free plans would be "limited to one notebook and 50 notes only." The pop-up also encourages users to upgrade to a paid plan, claiming it will offer a "special discount of 40 percent" for just $77.99 for the first year (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 558 yuan), allowing users to create notes and notebooks without restrictions.
TechCrunch, however, said a representative of the company explained that Evernote had not yet decided whether to implement the change and that less than 1% of free users had received pop-up messages. Evernote claims that they will decide whether to implement a stricter free plan "based on progress."
CTOnews.com also found that Evernote was acquired by Bending Spoons at the end of 2022 and immediately laid off 129 employees after the acquisition, when a spokesperson claimed that the company had "been unprofitable for many years" and "unsustainable in the long run."
