CTOnews.com, Nov. 29 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- with the help of the James Weber Space Telescope (JWST) near Infrared camera (NIRCam), NASA astronomers captured the newborn star HH 797 in its infancy.

HH 797 lies 1000 light-years from Earth. HH 797 is in the lower half of this image, near the young open star cluster IC 348.

CTOnews.com Note: Herbie-Harrow objects (HH objects) are nebula-like objects formed by newborn stars in the universe. New stars spew out gas at speeds of nearly hundreds of kilometers per second, which collide fiercely with clouds of gas and dust around the star. At present, the number of individual HH objects or HH object groups has exceeded thousands.

This photo shows the newborn star (known as the protostar) spewing high-speed stellar wind and colliding with nearby dust and gas. This collision creates an interaction that we can see in the picture.

Researchers have previously observed that for cold molecular gases associated with HH 797, most of the redshift gas (away from us) is located in the south (lower right), while the blue shift gas (moving toward us) is located in the north (lower left).

A gradient is also found in the effluent so that at a given distance from the young central star, the velocity of the gas at the eastern edge of the jet is more red than that at the western edge.

In this higher resolution Weber image, we can see that what is thought to be an outflow is actually made up of two almost parallel effluents, each with a separate series of shock waves (which explains the velocity asymmetry).

Therefore, the source is located in a small dark area (lower right corner of the center) and has been known from previous observations, so it is not a single star, but a double star.
