Apple Chip Lab is made public for the first time in pursuit of simplicity and efficiency
CTOnews.com, December 2 (Xinhua)-- CNBC released a news report today that it visited Apple's campus in Cupertino, California on November 14 this year and was approved to disclose the internal scenes of Apple Chip Lab for the first time.
Johny Srouji, the head of Apple's chip, spoke to the media and discussed the company's foray into the complex business of developing custom semiconductors.
"We have thousands of engineers, but our chipset is actually very lean and efficient," says Mr Srugi. Unlike traditional chipmakers, Apple does not make chips for other companies.
Godfrey D'Souza, Senior Director of Apple hardware Verification, demonstrated the M3 SoC at the Apple Chip Lab in Cupertino, California. "because we don't need to sell chips, we can focus more on our products," Srugi continued. "this gives us the freedom to optimize, and the extensible architecture allows us to reuse certain combinations between different products." The video attached to CTOnews.com is as follows:
The interior of the chip test lab was rarely disclosed in the video, and Johny Srouji, the head of Apple's chip manufacturing, and John Ternus, the head of hardware engineering, were also invited to interview and comment.
