Japan's TDK will set up a factory in India to supply Apple's iPhone cell phone to Xinwanda.

CTOnews.com, December 4 (Xinhua)-- TDK, Apple's main battery supplier, will build a 180-acre plant in the Indian state of Haryana to produce battery cores for iPhone, according to Indian media Business Standard and Indian Minister of skills Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

It is reported that the cells will be supplied to Xin Wanda, Apple's lithium battery assembler. At the same time, the factory will bring thousands of new jobs to the region and is one of the first factories to put workers' dormitories in the factory area-a long-term requirement of Apple.

However, neither TDK nor Apple responded to inquiries about cooperation. In mid-October, members of TDK's leadership team and company officials met with senior officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in India to discuss the deal. Industry insiders estimate that Indian equipment manufacturers spend as much as 5.5 billion rupees a year on imported batteries. According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, Indian officials said Apple plans to produce more than 1 trillion rupees (currently about 85.7 billion yuan) worth of iPhone in India in fiscal year 2023 ending in the first quarter of 2024.

Indian officials say that even if Apple fails to reach the milestone of 1 trillion rupees this fiscal year, there is plenty of confidence that Apple will achieve that goal in the next fiscal year (by the first quarter of 2025).
