Meng Yun, chairman of Qualcomm China, attended the opening ceremony and the main forum and delivered a speech entitled "A new wave of 5G+AI innovation accelerates the start of the Smart + connected Future". According to Meng, with the large-scale deployment of 5G and accelerated expansion to more terminals and applications, how to fully develop and utilize higher spectrum and fully release the potential of 5G on the existing basis will lay the foundation for promoting the application of THz and millimeter wave spectrum in 6G in the future. At the same time, he also mentioned that when the two basic technologies of 5G and AI develop together, it will continue to give birth to new technology applications. For Qualcomm, thanks to the development of globalization and the process of economic development, in the field of mobile communications, we have gone through the process of 3G, 4G to 5G with many partners, and jointly promoted the rapid development of the mobile industry. it has formed a unique "ten-year G" technology evolution cycle in the wireless communication field. Today, 5G has reached midfield, the standard from Release 15 to Release 17 has been frozen, and there is still a long way to go since Release 18. At present, 5G has many applications in various vertical fields, how to popularize these application cases, solve the pain points of network and terminal applications, profoundly change the industrial pattern and way of life, and ultimately benefit the society, we should also rely on the joint efforts of colleagues in the industry to promote development.

Now the industry is talking about 5G Advanced, and there are a lot of discussions around 6G technology. We know that the development of communication technology is gradual. In the process of the continuous evolution of 5G technology, we have also been calling for more attention to the application of spectrum. In the past, operators have been accumulating spectrum resources, through which they provide existing 4G services. With the large-scale deployment and accelerated expansion of 5G to more terminals and applications, how to fully develop and utilize higher spectrum and fully release the potential of 5G has become the focus of our attention, which also lays a foundation for promoting the application of THz and millimeter wave spectrum in 6G.

‎ the focus I share with you today is how 5G+AI drives innovation in the future. China officially launched the commercial use of 5G in 2019; at the beginning of 2020, the country put forward the concept of "new infrastructure". As the first and an important part of the "new infrastructure", 5G has developed rapidly since then. As early as 2020, we put forward the idea of "enabling 5G+AI to do all kinds of things". Therefore, during the third Expo in 2020, we joined hands with many Chinese partners to showcase various terminals empowered by 5G and AI, as well as innovative applications that combine 5G with AI, such as the Pombert table tennis robot training system based on Qualcomm robot platform, various XR equipment and so on.

With the coordinated development of the two basic technologies of 5G and AI, new technology applications will continue to emerge. This year, the generative AI model has attracted much attention because it will become the direction of a new round of Internet technology evolution, with the ability to comprehensively innovate all previous applications. Qualcomm values the application of generative AI in mobile environment, especially the specific advantages that can be brought by terminal side or edge side.

At the Mobile World Congress held at the end of February this year, Qualcomm showed a terminal-side demonstration of the world's first generative AI model running on an Android phone, supporting more than 1 billion parameters, performing 20-step reasoning in 15 seconds, converting the input text into an image and displaying it immediately, fully highlighting the support provided by computing power and new technologies for terminal-side generative AI.

Qualcomm also demonstrated at the China International supply chain Promotion Expo recently held in Beijing. We ran Stable Diffusion on the latest flagship terminal carrying the third-generation Snapdragon 8 and entered the description of "the Great Wall of China covered with snow", which took only 0.6 seconds to generate the corresponding image. In less than a year, with the upgrade and optimization of hardware and software, generative AI has been well applied in the terminal side. We believe that the model with higher parameters can be supported on the terminal side next year, no matter whether you need text to generate pictures or video, all kinds of applications can be realized. This possibility will lead the intelligent terminal to a new chapter.

Terminal-side AI is very important. Today's large model applications are basically carried out in the cloud, it is like an encyclopedia to know astronomy and geography, under the human Pepsi, but the cloud model is not real-time, it depends on machine learning, it takes a certain amount of time to complete the operation. Only smart phones, smart cars, PC and other terminals can be used by users in person and in real time. In addition, the terminal side AI can also protect personal information very well. Therefore, we believe that the combination of terminal-side generated AI applications and cloud large models can jointly accelerate the rapid development of 5G applications in thousands of industries and enabling industries.
