CTOnews.com, December 13 (Xinhua)-- Chevrolet's best-selling SUV will switch to electric power next year. General Motors Mexico President Francisco Garza confirmed that production of the Chevrolet Equinox EV explorer electric car will begin in the first quarter of 2024.

General Motors will begin production of Chevrolet Equinox electric cars at its Alispe plant in Ramos, Mexico, in the first quarter of 2024, ▲ 's official Chevrolet promotional picture said this week. This will be the second electric SUV to be produced at the plant after Blazer pioneer EV. The first Blazer EV was launched at the factory at the end of June and began to be delivered to customers in the third quarter.

The first pioneer EV models to be launched early next year will be the 2RS FWD and 2RS AWD, with prices starting at $48995 (CTOnews.com Note: about 352000 yuan) and $52395 (about 376000 yuan currently), respectively. The EPA of the 2RS has a range of 319 miles (about 513.38 km).

The Chevrolet explorer plug-in version has appeared on the declaration list of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China, with length, width and height of 4653/1902/1714mm and wheelbase 2730mm respectively. From the "figure" point of view, it is clear that the explorer belongs to a compact SUV. The overall design language of the car is quite hard, with high ground clearance and obvious silhouette of the body. It can also be seen from the rear section that the new car is expected to offer different versions such as "Equinox ACTIV" or "Equinox RS", and the tail mark clearly indicates the identity of its PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model.

In terms of power, the car is equipped with a 1.5L engine produced by SAIC GM, and its maximum power is 127kW. At the same time, the car's power battery from Qinghai, Xi'an Fudi Battery Co., Ltd. is also equipped with a peak power 140kW drive motor, the highest speed is 180km/h.
