CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- NASA's perseverance rover has just reached another major milestone. The car-sized rover has spent 1000 "Mars days" on the Red Planet (Mars days are slightly longer than Earth days, 24 hours and 37 minutes).

According to CTOnews.com, perseverance and its micro-robot companion Intelligence helicopter landed in the Jazelo crater on Mars on February 18, 2021. Since then, the large rover has been looking for signs of ancient Martian life on the 45-kilometer-wide Jazelo plain.

Perseverance found that Jazero's ground was made up of volcanic rock. Members of the task force said that the sandstone and mudstone covered above the bedrock showed that hundreds of millions of years after the crater was formed, a river began to flow into Jazello. it eventually formed a huge lake-a lake 35 kilometers wide and possibly up to 30 meters deep. The delta is also dotted with boulders, which originated outside Jazelo and were swept in by a powerful torrent.

Perseverance is still collecting Mars samples, which, if all goes according to plan, will be brought back to Earth around 2030 through joint activities carried out by NASA and the European Space Agency. The total number of samples collected has now reached 23, including some very interesting Martian material.

Of course, Smart is also celebrating the milestone of the 1000 Mars Day. The 1.8-kilogram helicopter's initial mission was to make five flights to prove that it is possible to fly in the air despite the thinness of the Martian atmosphere. Witty completed its target mission in the spring of 2021 and was given an extended mission to act as a scout for perseverance. So far, the rotary-wing aircraft has completed 62 flights.
