CTOnews.com, December 20, Samsung Electronics announced that its self-service maintenance program will be upgraded. Starting this month, the flagship Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 folding screens and the S23 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series and Galaxy Book 2 Pro series will be repaired by users.

The self-service program, launched in partnership with iFixit, was initially limited to S20, S21 and Tab S7 devices. The S22 series and some Galaxy Pro laptops were added in early 2023, and now the entire flagship S23 series and folding screen series have joined the program.

The price of repair parts for the Galaxy folding screen has not been announced, but Samsung's folding screen repair cost is not expected to be cheap, given that Google Pixel Fold's inner screen repair kit costs as much as $900 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 6417 yuan).

Samsung's self-service repair program, launched last summer, allows Galaxy users to get all the parts and tools they need to repair the device themselves in the event of screen damage or broken glass. The plan also supports the maintenance of charging ports, speakers, SIM trays and buttons on phones and tablets, and even covers some parts of some of the company's laptops.

Samsung also announced that more European consumers will have the opportunity to enjoy the service as self-service programs expand to Denmark, Greece, Hungary and Portugal.

It is worth mentioning that although users can repair their own folding screen phones, it does not mean that everyone has such hands-on ability, and there are still some risks in dismantling and repairing expensive foldable phones.
