August 20-Mexican economy Minister Tatiana Clautier (Tatiana Clouthier) said on Friday local time that various incentives are being considered to attract private investment in semiconductors because the United States is stimulating chip production and Mexico has a natural geographical advantage.

Clautier said Friday that the Mexican government is seeking to help companies considering expanding their operations in Mexico, and that the Mexican Ministry of Finance is evaluating the plan. She added that more investment in Mexico would benefit the local car manufacturing, electronics and aerospace industries.

"We can create incentives for companies that move into Mexico to invest more," Clautier said in an interview. " She said she was in contact with the Mexican Ministry of Finance to discuss what could be done to support innovative industries to boost employment. "We believe that these areas deserve some type of assistance."

Mr Clautier did not elaborate on the incentives being discussed.

In early August, after Congress approved a chip bill totaling about $52 billion, Mexico's Ministry of Commerce held a forum with US investors to discuss the advantages of investing in Mexico. Mexico may be a "key partner", Mexico's economy ministry said in a statement after the meeting.

Clautier lists Jalisco and Aguascalentes as potential investment areas, but also encourages companies to move to southern states with more water resources. The drought has affected cities in northern Mexico, including Monterrey, and Mexican President Lopez has called on water-intensive companies to limit production.
