Google will launch anti-false information campaign in some EU countries
According to foreign media reports, Jigsaw, a subsidiary of Google, will launch a campaign next week to warn people to avoid harmful content on social platforms by cracking down on false information about Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Jigsaw has worked with psychologists at the universities of Cambridge and Bristol to produce a 90-second video clip that will be broadcast on Google's YouTube and Twitter, TikTok and meta's Facebook platforms to warn people against harmful content on social media.
The campaign aims to build resilience to anti-refugee rhetoric in cooperation with local non-governmental organizations, fact checkers, academics and false information experts.
Misleading and false information can easily spread widely through social media networks, and governments have pushed for new laws to curb the movement of false information.
Beth Goldberg, director of research at Jigsaw, said in an interview that this would be a pilot project and hoped to extend the approach to other countries.
It is reported that the publicity campaign will last for a month.
