Video conferencing software Zoom will give up support for Chromebook applications in September
CTOnews.com August 31 news, under the influence of COVID-19 's epidemic, a large number of people turned to telecommuting, and the demand for Chromebook with good ease of use and lower price surged.
According to Android Police, the videoconferencing software Zoom has a special Google Chrome browser extension and a Chrome app optimized for Chromebook. Unfortunately, Zoom doesn't want to maintain Chromebook applications anymore.
CTOnews.com has learned that it is fairly easy to install and use Zoom on Chromebook. However, the application lacks all the functions except the basic functions. As a result, users can join and start meetings on Chromebook, but cannot get the same experience as the Android or desktop versions of Zoom applications.
According to a report by 9to5Google in June, Chromebook users saw a warning that Zoom would not support the app in September 2022. This application will continue to be used, but Zoom will not provide support or updates.
The reason for giving up support is that the technology used to make applications is out of date, the report said. In 2020, Google announced plans to stop Chrome applications across operating systems, including Chrome OS, and stop supporting development in June 2021. In June 2022, Google stopped accepting new and old Chrome application submissions on Chrome Web Store.
