CTOnews.com, September 4 (Xinhua) Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, along with businesses, state and local officials and hundreds of others, attended the opening ceremony of the Bay City SK Siltron CSS semiconductor wafer factory today to celebrate the ribbon cutting of semiconductor wafer maker SK Siltron CSS's new manufacturing plant in Bay City.
The company's $300 million investment strengthens SK Siltron's commitment to Michigan and further enhances Michigan's leadership in the national semiconductor supply chain.
CTOnews.com learned that SK Siltron CSS, headquartered in Bay City, announced plans to expand production of silicon carbide wafers, which represent the future of the industry, in August 2021.
According to reports, the project is supported by a US $1.5 million grant from the Michigan Business Development Plan and is expected to create 150 jobs. So far, the company has recruited more than 100 employees for new positions.
The governor said, "the products made by SK Siltron are the cornerstone of countless products and industries: electric cars, solar panels, smartphones and so on."
