CTOnews.com, Sept. 6 (Xinhua)-- Sony Interactive Entertainment SIE will lose its longtime PlayStation hardware architect, Yaakang Ito, who will retire at the end of this month, according to Bloomberg.

Sony told Bloomberg Tuesday that Ito, 60, executive vice president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is responsible for PlayStation and Sony's other game programs, will leave the company on Oct. 1. In addition, Sony's personnel change announcement also confirmed the news.

CTOnews.com learned that public information shows that Ito joined Sony in 1986, first developing car audio equipment, and then transferred to the game console division in 2000. During his tenure in PlayStation, he presided over the development of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles, which also led to the birth of PlayStation 4 Pro.

In addition, at an investor meeting in May this year, Sony said that it would no longer make first-party games for PS4 in 2025, which means that the company will fully shift its efforts to the PS5 platform.
