CTOnews.com, September 10, the latest Canalys report shows that global shipments of wearable wristbands increased by 2.0% to 41.7 million units in the second quarter of 2022, returning to growth after a 3.7% decline in the first quarter. The base and smartwatches, which also belong to the wristband category, increased by 46.6% and 9.3%, respectively.

Apple continues to dominate the global wristband watch market with a 26% market share, according to the report. Although Samsung is about to launch the Galaxy Watch 5 series in the third quarter of 2022, it still surpassed Huawei with a steady growth rate of 58 per cent, with shipments of 2.8 million smartwatches.

CTOnews.com learned that Canalys said Samsung took the lead in using its smartwatch to enhance the high-end ecosystem user experience in Android. The latest releases by Samsung and Garmin, as well as those expected by Apple and Google in the coming months, have intensified competition among high-end smartwatches.

Specifically, the top five global foundational and smartwatch shipments in the second quarter of 2022 were Apple (26.4%), Samsung (8.9%), Huawei (8.3%), Noise (5.8%) and Garmin (5.5%). Among them, Noise, a local manufacturer, leads the Indian wearable wristband market with a 29% market share.
