On the evening of September 17, Beijing time, it was reported that German local authorities had postponed voting indefinitely on Tesla's plan to expand its factory near Berlin.

Arne Christiani, mayor of Gruenheide, Germany, told the media that Gruenheide City Council would not discuss the plan at its meeting this month. Tesla's German factory is located in Glenhead.

In May, Tesla applied to the city of Glenhead to expand its German superplant by a third, or 100 hectares east of the plant.

Christiani said at the time that the city council would soon consider Tesla's application. Christiani thought at the time that, like Tesla's Phase 1 project, formal approval of the expansion plan could take about a year.

But now the vote has been put on hold indefinitely. Christiani is also unsure whether the vote will be back on the agenda this year.

Tesla's German factory struggled from the start. Back in November 2019, Tesla announced plans to build a new factory in Glenhead to cater to Europe's rapidly growing demand for electric vehicles. However, due to environmental problems, the project was delayed again and again until this year.
