Exports of South Korean semiconductors and other ICT products decreased in August, related to falling demand and reduced production.
On September 16, according to foreign media reports, data previously released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology showed that exports of ICT products, including semiconductors and panels, decreased to 19.3 billion US dollars in August, down from 20.2 billion US dollars in the same period last year.
According to the latest foreign media reports, South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology said that exports of major product categories in South Korea's ICT sector fell in August compared with the same period last year, due to a decline in demand caused by the global economic slowdown and a reduction in the production of ICT products.
According to data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology, semiconductors, the main ICT exports, accounted for 56.8 per cent of ICT exports, down 6.8 per cent from a year earlier to US $11 billion in August.
Among other key ICT products, exports also declined to varying degrees in August, including panel exports of US $2.1 billion, down 5.3% from the same period last year; smartphone exports of US $1.1 billion, down 3.3% from the same period last year; and computer-related products exports of US $1.26 billion, down 25.3% from the same period last year.
