CTOnews.com, Sept. 28 (Xinhua)-- Apple today explained why some iPhone users who recently updated to iOS 16 may not see new duplicate photo albums in the photo app.

CTOnews.com learned that as a new feature of iOS 16, the photo app will automatically detect any duplicate photos and videos in the user's library and organize them into duplicate project albums for inspection, giving users the option of merging duplicate sets and deleting redundant media.

However, many users said that there were no duplicate project albums after updating their iPhone software, and it was not clear whether it was an error Bug.

In a new support document, Apple clarified that to display duplicate photo albums, a user's iPhone must first index the photo gallery and find duplicates, but this detection process requires the iPhone to be locked and connected to the power supply.

"depending on the tasks running in the background and the size of the photo library, this process may happen quickly, or it may take several days to complete," Apple added.

It is important to note that if the user does not have any copies in the iPhone database, the repeating items album will not be displayed under the Utilities section of the Photos application.
