It is reported that Toyota launched a bZ3 electric car with BYD blade batteries in China at the end of the year.

According to foreign media reports on September 28, Toyota plans to start producing and selling a small electric car with BYD batteries before the end of the year as part of its ongoing cooperation with BYD.

It is reported that the bZ3 sedan, which is only for the Chinese market, will be the second model in Toyota's new series of Beyond Zero (bZ) pure electric vehicles.

The bZ4X sports utility vehicle (SUV), the first model in the bZ series, was supposed to go on sale in China earlier this year, but the global recall forced Toyota to suspend production of the model globally.

It is reported that the bZ3 sedan is roughly the same size as Toyota's Corolla, but there is more space in the back seat, perhaps around 200000 yuan.

BZ3, which is operated jointly by Toyota and its Chinese partner FAW Group, will be produced at a rate of 30,000 vehicles a year in Tianjin, the source said.

Toyota has long advocated the production of a small car with comfort as the best way to popularize pure electric vehicles. The main reason for the feasibility of the bZ3 electric car is the thinner lithium iron phosphate blade battery of BYD. It is reported that the thickness of the BYD blade battery pack is about 10 cm, which is about 5 to 10 cm thinner than other lithium ion battery packs.
