Thank CTOnews.com netizens for the clue delivery of the little alarm bell that can sing! CTOnews.com, September 29 (Xinhua)-- the Dark Sky Weather app owned by Apple can no longer be downloaded from App Store in the United States and other regions, indicating that it has been removed from the shelves ahead of time.

Apple bought Dark Sky as early as March 2020 and has since integrated elements of the app into the built-in weather app on iPhone (which will soon include iPad).

After being acquired by Apple, Dark Sky can still be purchased as a stand-alone weather app, but its developers said earlier this year that the Dark Sky iOS app will no longer be available after December 31, 2022.

The Dark Sky blog warns that when the app becomes unavailable at the end of 2022, the purchased version will stop providing weather data, but so far the app will still work. It's not clear why Apple took it off the shelves now.

CTOnews.com has learned that although the Dark Sky application will be closed at the end of December, Dark Sky API and the website will run until March 21, 2023. Developers using Dark Sky API can transition to Apple's WeatherKit API.

"the Dark Sky iOS version of Apple's weather app will cease operation next year, and its functions have been integrated into iOS 16 weather."
