Toyota CEO: it is impractical for California to ban the sale of fuel cars in 2035

CTOnews.com, October 3 (Xinhua)-- California has announced a ban on the sale of all new gasoline vehicles from 2035. However, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda is not optimistic about the plan.

Late last week, Mr. Toyoda shared with reporters that it would be difficult to achieve goals for electric cars like California, according to Automotive News. He believes that not enough people want a pure electric car.

Akio Toyoda mentioned the hasty pace of some carmakers and added that Toyota had no plans to launch a lineup of all-electric vehicles as eagerly as some of its competitors.

Mr Toyoda also said it would be very difficult for only 50 per cent of new cars to be sold as zero-emission cars by 2030, and suggested that there should be no restrictions on the types of vehicles people buy. Toyota serves about 200 countries and regions around the world, which means it must pay close attention to market conditions and consumer demand, while about 1 billion people do not have a reliable power supply at all.

Akio Toyoda went on to talk about hydrogen as a good solution, a direction that Toyota has been developing for years. Akio Toyoda also touted the brand's hybrids, pointing out that each 320-mile all-electric car could produce eight 40-mile plug-in hybrids. He pointed out that this would be a better way to reduce carbon emissions.
