According to reports, the high-speed railway is an important part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail network from Hohhot to Nanning, connecting the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway to the north, the Wuhan-Shiyan high-speed railway under construction in the south, and the high-speed railway from Wuhan to Yichang and Jingmen to Jingzhou in the south. The total length of the main line is 117 kilometers, the design speed is 350 kilometers per hour, and the construction period is three years and six months.

Xiangyang East Station, Yicheng North Station, Shuanghe Station and Jingmen West Station are set up on the whole line of Xiangyang high-speed railway, of which Yicheng North Station and Jingmen West Station are new stations, of which Xiangyang East Station is the existing station and Shuanghe Station is the reserved construction station. The introduction of Xiangyang East Railway Station by Xiangjing high-speed railway is a control project of the whole line.

The Xiangjing high-speed railway line spans the Han River, Xiang River and other rivers, passing through the Han River alluvial plain and low mountain and hilly areas, with many bridges and tunnels along the line.
