According to foreign media reports, Indonesia plans to provide subsidies for electric vehicles from next year, with the goal of having 2.5 million electric vehicle users by 2025, stimulating market demand and reducing air pollution.

Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said in an interview a few days ago that the government is studying the scale and specific mechanism of subsidies, and promised that the new regulations will become a "disrupter" of the Indonesian automobile industry. Regulators are also considering subsidies for the retrofitting of cars with internal combustion engines. It is reported that Indonesia's Ministry of Transport will contact automakers such as Hyundai and BYD in the country with a view to building an electric vehicle ecosystem for the new capital in Borneo.

In recent years, Indonesian President Joko Widodo Widodo has launched a series of electric vehicle policies. This year, the Indonesian government ordered all state government offices to use electric cars and asked national utility PLN to expand its network of charging stations to achieve the goal of 2 million electric motorcycle users and 500000 electric car users within four years.

Data show that as of October 3, the number of electric vehicles in Indonesia was 28188, of which motorcycles accounted for the majority, reaching 22942.
