Nokia wins multi-year 5G supply contract for India Telecom
CTOnews.com, Oct. 18, Nokia announced that it has become a major supplier of Reliance Jio to India Telecom, supplying 5G Wireless access Network (RAN) equipment across the country from its comprehensive AirScale portfolio, a multi-year contract.
Reliance Jio is the largest mobile operator in India and has one of the largest RAN coverage in the world. Under the contract, Nokia will provide equipment in its AirScale portfolio, including base stations, high-capacity 5G Massive MIMO antennas and remote radio heads (RRH) that support different frequency bands, as well as self-organizing network software.
Reliance Jio plans to deploy a 5G SA independent network that will complement its 4G network. The network will enable Reliance Jio to provide advanced 5G services such as large-scale machine-to-machine communication, network slicing and ultra-low latency.
CTOnews.com has learned that Nokia has a long-term business in India. The new deal will mean that Nokia now provides services to the big three mobile operators in India.
