Guo Mingyi: the starting price of the next Apple Apple TV may be even lower, less than US $100.
CTOnews.com Oct. 19, Apple announced last night that the starting price of the new Apple TV 4K has been reduced to $129, compared with the previous generation starting price of $179, but analyst Guo Mingyi believes that the next Apple TV may be sold at a lower price.
"the price reduction of the new Apple TV 4K (starting at $129) reflects the expected improvement in the cost structure," Guo said. "this is good for shipping, but the price reduction should not be enough. The sweet spot for Apple TV should be less than $100, so I expect the next generation to be cheaper."
CTOnews.com learned that the Apple TV second-generation (2010) and third-generation (2012) models were both launched at a price of $99, while Apple later reduced the price of the third-generation model to $69, so there is a precedent for Apple TV under $100, which will better compete with low-cost streaming devices sold by Google, Amazon and Roku.
Another possibility is that when the next-generation Apple TV is launched, the newly released Apple TV 4K will still be available for around $99.
