CTOnews.com As the Professional Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) trade show 2022 kicked off Monday in Las Vegas, Stelantis Group's OEM accessories division, Mopar, unveiled a number of interesting electric concept vehicles, including an electric Jeep "CJ Surge."

According to reports, CJ Surge is the so-called restomod model (a combination of "repair" and "modification"), which is based on Jeep CJ7 and replaces the internal combustion engine with a battery electric propulsion system.

As a result, the CJ Surge is no longer an inline six or V eight engine as originally equipped with the CJ7, but rather an "expandable 400 volt, 200 kW electric drive module" that provides four-wheel drive capability.

The powerplant is powered by a 24-module lithium-ion battery housed in a "custom enclosure mounted at the rear of the cockpit," as you can see in the large silver box that takes up space in the trunk below.

Unlike traditional manual transmissions, the CJ Surge replaces the gear lever with a Wrangler-like JK center console and rotary shift knob.

CTOnews.com understands that Mark Bosanac, Mopar's senior vice president of service, parts and customer service North America, said: "The Jeep CJ Surge concept vehicle explores the future of zero-emission propulsion systems suites and supports the Jeep brand's mission to become the world's leading electric SUV brand. "

Mopar did not release other performance data for the car, nor did it say when it would launch a production model.
