In 2019, Apple hired David Smoli (David Smoley) as vice president of the Denby team. Previously, he served as chief information officer of pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca. Unlike Denby, Matthiasen has been vice president of online retail for a relatively short period of about three years. She previously worked as an operating executive at Apple.

Their departure means Apple has lost at least three vice presidents in recent weeks. The vice president is the highest level of management under the executive team led by Apple CEO Tim Tim Cook. The media reported earlier this month that Evans Hankey, Apple's vice president of industrial design, would also leave the company. Howath, Apple's chief privacy officer, has also left Apple in recent weeks to work for a law firm.
