Hangouts, a Google chat app, was closed today.

Google announced earlier this year that it was shifting Hangouts users to Google Chat, the company's Slack-like instant messaging app for businesses.

Starting from November 1, US time, Google Hangouts web apps are no longer available, which is the "last remnant" of Google Hangouts. Android and iOS apps were closed in July this year.

The death of Hangouts can be said to be slow, and Google began to allow users to migrate to Google Chat in 2021. The company announced in June 2022 that it would facilitate the transfer of Hangout users to Google Chat. Although most of the information and contacts are transferred automatically, not all data is migrated to Google Chat.

CTOnews.com learned that Hangouts emerged as a feature of Google + before it became a stand-alone application, a messaging service that has been downloaded 5 billion times in the Google App Store.

Google has previously said that Google Chat is a better way for users to connect with others.
