AMD RX 7900 series public domain graphics cards with hidden temperature sensors

GamersNexus, known for its in-depth analysis of the temperature and power of graphics cards, has noticed that Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards have hidden temperature sensors.

The sensor is hidden behind the fan, enabling the video card to measure the ambient temperature in the chassis. This sensor is useful for graphics cards with zero decibel mute technology, which is also supported by the AMD Radeon RX 7900 series, which stops the fan from turning when the video card is idle or in light use, achieving a zero decibel mute effect.

CTOnews.com learned that without this sensor, some graphics card components other than the GPU, such as the VRM, are prone to overheating. One example is EVGA's GeForce GTX 10 series video card, which causes some components to overheat and damage due to the lack of this sensor. The company was later forced to redesign the card, adding multiple sensors to the card.

Gamers Nexus expects AMD to provide data from the sensor to users, but the company has not made any official comment on the matter. It is not clear whether board partners will add similar sensors to their designs. In fact, there is no brand other than Asustek to display their RX 7900 series graphics cards.
