According to a screenshot released by Twitter employees on Nov. 8, the new management discussed layoffs on the company-wide Slack channel and decided who would be fired at will.

The dismissal of nearly half of Twitter employees has been dramatic since Elon Elon Musk took over. Screenshots of chat saved by some former Twitter employees show that Twitter's new management is handling problems in a funnier way.

Musk tweeted to justify mass layoffs, saying that firing Twitter employees was something he had to do to ensure that Twitter could survive.

Twitter is firing employees in a strange way. While Twitter notifies most laid-off employees via email, many former employees say they found themselves fired because their work laptops and systems were remotely formatted and unable to log on to work-related email or Slack systems.

But after firing nearly 3700 people in a fairly casual way, Twitter management extended an olive branch to dozens of employees who had been "mistakenly" laid off. Management also proactively contacted several Android and iOS developers, mainly because they found that they had the skills and experience to implement Musk's plan to transform Twitter.

The information revealed by Twitter user Gergely Gergely Orosz makes the layoffs seem even less serious. "the people who founded the Slack channel didn't expect it to be public by default, and everyone could see it," he tweeted. "they discussed a lot of things about how to fire employees, such as Musk wanted every department to have a list of laid-off employees and related links. They later realized the mistake."

The new management of Twitter is mainly engineers brought in by Musk from Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Company. With the exception of Twitter, Musk's other companies are used to using Microsoft MS Teams for internal communication.

Twitter management decided to create Slack channels for internal communication. The problem is that the MS Teams channel is private by default, but the Slack channel is public by default, which means that everyone working on Twitter can see the chat.

Twitter's new management discussed a lot of layoffs on the channel, such as Musk's hope that the company would have a complete list of layoffs. Presumably, they also made a list of layoffs and shared them on Slack.

Twitter employees who could see chat transcripts and layoffs took screenshots, and then the company's management realized that the Slack channel they were communicating with was open throughout the company. From the chat content and list, it can be found that the fired Twitter employees are randomly selected, and there will be no exit interviews.
