Samsung and Amazon establish Matter Smart Home Cooperation: SmartThings and Alexa Interoperability Control
CTOnews.com, November 8 (Xinhua)-- recently, Matter 1.0, a smart home standard designed to push the concept of interoperability between Internet of things devices to a new level, has been released. Samsung has now announced a partnership with Amazon that will allow SmartThings and Alexa users to use Matter's multi-administrator features and expand communications and capabilities across devices.
The purpose of this cooperation is to simplify the process of setting up Matter devices through SmartThings and Alexa. Samsung said the partnership is based on Commissionable Endpoints API and the upcoming Alexa API, which implements Matter's multi-administrator settings and thread credential sharing.
"SmartThings customers have long liked to use Alexa voice features, giving them more ways to control their homes," said Samsung SmartThings head and vice president. "We are pleased to work with Amazon to help simplify the smart home experience and provide common customers with more choices about the types of devices and services they use in their homes."
In essence, as far as end users are concerned, this partnership will allow customers who choose to join to use SmartThings and Alexa to control Matter hardware without having to set up smart home devices on each platform. Samsung SmartThings and Google Home have been integrated before, this time involving Amazon and Alexa.
CTOnews.com learned that in October, the Connectivity Standards Alliance and its members, including Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and other smart home manufacturers, announced the launch of the Matter 1.0 smart home accessories standard.
The Matter launch supports a variety of commonly used smart home product categories, including lighting, HVAC control, curtains, security sensors, door locks, video players, inter-protocol bridges, and controls that can be embedded in many different types of products.
