Construction of Samsung P3 chip foundry delayed
CTOnews.com, November 10 (Xinhua)-- the construction of the clean room project for Samsung's Korean P3 factory has been postponed from the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2022 to the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, and from the end of the fourth quarter to the first quarter of 2023. This has also delayed the introduction of subsequent ancillary equipment and manufacturing equipment. It is reported that Samsung P3 generation factory began construction in mid-2020, with a construction area of 700000 square meters, which is Samsung's largest factory in the world.
TheElec has learned that Samsung will complete the construction of its new P3 fab next year. The technology giant had planned to finish construction within this year.
Samsung only started building clean rooms at the fab at the end of October, according to sources. The construction of the NAND production line has also been delayed by a month.
The source added that this month's delay has pushed back the schedule for other stages.
CTOnews.com learned that Samsung's P3 factory is a hybrid plant, which means it will produce both memory and logic chips. The clean room of the DRAM production line in the factory has been completed. The NAND production line clean room is expected to be completed and put into use in the first quarter of 2023.
