Now that seems to have changed, as the iFixit disassembly team spoke highly of the maintainability of the recently released Surface Pro 9, calling it the best-maintained Surface device in recent years.

According to iFixit, the hardest part of disassembling the Surface Pro 9 is removing the display, but even this part is not as difficult as the previous Surface device, because the new display uses an improved adhesive. After the screen is removed, you can see the radiator and fan assembly, which are secured by several Torx screws.

What excites the iFixit team is that the battery is fixed by screws rather than the traditional adhesive that is difficult to remove. After removing the battery, you only need to remove some Torx screws from the motherboard, and the removal of Surface Pro 9 is complete. In terms of maintainability, iFixit gave it a 7, which is a big improvement over previous models.

CTOnews.com learned that iFixit also shared that Microsoft will release maintenance guidelines for its products by the end of the year and start providing components in the first half of 2023. These manuals and parts will also be available to ordinary consumers, while Microsoft previously provided parts only to authorized service providers.
