South Korean ICT exports fell to US $17.9 billion and semiconductors to US $9.4 billion in October.

November 15, according to foreign media reports, under the influence of increased concerns about the global economic downturn, the demand for consumer electronics has declined, and South Korea's exports of information and communications technology products have also been affected.

According to the latest data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology, South Korea's exports of information and communications technology products fell 10.3% in October from a year earlier to $17.9 billion, down from $20 billion in the same period last year.

South Korea's exports of ICT products fell significantly in October, which means a decline in exports of many product categories. According to data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology, exports of major products have declined.

Specifically, semiconductor products, which account for more than half of ICT exports, exported US $9.4 billion in October, down 16.2% from the same period last year; panel exports were US $2 billion, down 9.6% from the same period last year; and computer exports were US $1 billion, down 30.9% from the same period last year.

Among ICT products, only exports of smartphones increased year-on-year. Driven by increased demand for high-end smartphones, South Korean smartphone exports reached $1.6 billion in October, up 13% from a year earlier.

Although South Korea's exports of ICT products fell in October from a year earlier, they still have a trade surplus in this area. South Korea's imports of information and communication technology products totaled 13.8 billion US dollars in October, an increase of 13.6 percent over the same period last year.
