According to the Global Game Market report released by Newzoo on November 22, the number of global players is expected to exceed 3.2 billion this year, an increase of 4.6 percent over the same period last year. Of these, the number of players in the Middle East and Africa reached 488 million, up 8.2 per cent from a year earlier, followed by Latin America, with an increase of 4.8 per cent. North America had the smallest increase, at 2.6%.

Contrary to the increase in the number of players, Newzoo forecasts that global game revenue will be $184 billion in 2022, down 4.3% from a year earlier, the first decline in the past 15 years. Half of global gaming revenue comes from the Asia-Pacific region ($87.9 billion), while North America accounts for just over 1/4 points ($48.4 billion).

CTOnews.com learned that most of the revenue generated from these games was contributed by mobile games, accounting for more than 50 per cent of total revenue of $92.2 billion. This was followed by mainframe games, accounting for 28 per cent ($51.8 billion), downloadable / boxed PC games accounting for 21 per cent ($38.2 billion), and web games accounting for 1 per cent ($2.3 billion).

Newzoo predicts that by 2025, the number of global gamers will exceed 3.5 billion, and game revenue will be about $210.2 billion.
