CTOnews.com Samsung hopes to target a wider audience with its Galaxy foldable phones to address slow growth and macroeconomic headwinds in its high-end smartphones, Samsung Electronics Mobile Business Chief Lu Taiwen said at a press conference Wednesday.

By 2025, folding-screen phones will account for more than 50% of Samsung's high-end smartphone shipments, Roh said. Folding screens will become the new standard for smartphones.

According to him, the Samsung Galaxy S Ultra model will inherit the audience of its Note series within three years.

Samsung launched its latest Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 phones on Wednesday, which will be available in selected countries around the world starting Aug. 26.

Samsung's Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3, launched in August 2021, will ship 7.1 million units by 2021, with Z Flip 3 leading the way with 4.6 million units shipped, according to market tracker Omdia.

Omdia's data shows strong growth in folding-screen phone shipments worldwide, reaching 9 million units, up 309% from 2020. Samsung's Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 combined accounted for 2.6% of Samsung's total smartphone shipments of 271.5 million units in 2021.
