Huawei recently released the 2021 Sustainable Development report on its website, centering on the four strategies of digital inclusion, security and credibility, green environmental protection and harmonious ecology, according to the news of CTOnews.com8 on March 17.

The report shows that in terms of digital inclusion, Huawei has adopted the TECH4ALL initiative, hoping that digital technology will benefit everyone. Among them, more than 400 schools around the world, more than 110000 teachers and students and unemployed youth access to the Internet through the TECH4ALL project to develop digital skills and enhance scientific and technological literacy; through the use of digital technology, the TECH4ALL project helps 32 protected areas in 25 countries to improve the efficiency of biodiversity conservation; more than 4.4 million visually impaired users and 800,000 hearing impaired users use Huawei terminal accessibility every month. The RuralStar family of solutions has connected 60 million people in remote areas in more than 70 countries around the world.

In terms of security and credibility, Huawei regards network security and privacy protection as the company's top priority. In 2021, Huawei obtained more than 70 network security certification certificates, handled more than 20000 requests from data subjects in a timely and effective manner, respected and protected users' privacy, obtained a total of 35 AEO certificates in 28 countries on five continents to ensure supply chain security, and responded to and dealt with more than 180 sudden disasters and major incidents worldwide in a timely manner.

In terms of green protection, Huawei is committed to reducing the environmental impact of production, operation and other processes as well as the whole life cycle of products and services. The average energy efficiency of its main products in China increased by 1.9 times that in 2019; the electricity of renewable energy used in 2021 reached more than 300 million kilowatt-hours, an increase of 42.3 percent over the previous year; 98 per cent of Top100 suppliers and energy-intensive suppliers set carbon reduction targets; the P50 flagship series has 89 per cent lower plastic content and less than 1 per cent plastic compared with the P40 series.

In terms of harmonious ecology, Huawei adheres to integrity and compliance management, and pays attention to employee development and value realization. In 2021, Huawei invested more than 15 billion yuan in global employee security, and the R & D expenditure in 2021 was 142.7 billion yuan, accounting for about 22.4% of the annual income. By 2021, Huawei had 195000 employees worldwide, of which about 107000 were engaged in research and development, accounting for 54.8 per cent of the total.

CTOnews.com learned that Huawei had global sales of 636.8 billion yuan in 2021 and a net profit of 113.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 75.9 percent. Of this total, consumer business totaled 243.4 billion yuan, accounting for 38.2% of the total income, while income from smart wear and smart screens increased by 30%.
