Sources say Samsung will start producing 4G and 5G telecom equipment in India

CTOnews.com, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) Samsung plans to invest 4 billion Indian rupees (about 354 million yuan) to produce 4G and 5G telecom infrastructure / equipment at its manufacturing plant in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India, according to the Economic Times of India.

It is said to be the first time Samsung has invested in manufacturing network equipment in India, where Ericsson and Nokia have already begun manufacturing similar facilities.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung has one of the world's largest smartphone factories in Gurgaon, India, and that Samsung also makes televisions and other products in India. Through the investment, Samsung can apply for India's production-related incentive (PLI) scheme, which will provide 4-7 per cent incentives to eligible companies to encourage local manufacturing of 3C electronics products.

Samsung is said to have been approved by the Indian government, the Secretariat of the National Security Council, as a reliable source of telecommunications equipment. In addition, Samsung Networks has received orders from India's two largest telecom operators, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
