CTOnews.com, Nov. 30, it is reported that Volkswagen is in talks with Foxconn to produce its upcoming Scout Motors electric truck and SUV.

Foxconn is just getting started in the auto industry and recently acquired the Lordstown car plant. However, the brand's reputation in electronics manufacturing makes them an attractive choice for manufacturing partners for start-ups and traditional carmakers. Volkswagen may be in talks with Foxconn to allow the contract giant to produce the upcoming Scout electric truck, Reuters reported.

There is little information about the talks between Volkswagen and Foxconn, which comes from an "internal source" cited by Automotive Weekly, a German newspaper.

There is some background information that makes the message credible. Foxconn has bought a car manufacturing base (the aforementioned Lordstown plant in Ohio), and the Taiwanese manufacturer has set an ambitious goal of occupying 5 per cent of the electric vehicle manufacturing market by 2025. Similarly, Volkswagen's Scout brand is scheduled to be sold in the United States from 2026. Therefore, the transaction between the two can help both parties achieve their goals.

CTOnews.com learned that Volkswagen unveiled its Scout Motors brand a few months ago, and the Scout Motors website shows that the brand focuses on off-road vehicles and competes with brands such as Rivian, Ford and Jeep. It is said that the Scout Motors brand will be designed, manufactured and produced in the United States as Volkswagen tries to attract the pickup market, which has traditionally focused on the United States.
