Samsung HDR10 + standard will be extended to games and set-top boxes

CTOnews.com, December 1 (Xinhua) Samsung and Amazon jointly developed an open and royalty-free HDR10 + standard in 2017. Since then, the standard has expanded its influence in a variety of device categories, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions and game consoles. Now, with the addition of games and set-top boxes, the HDR high dynamic range standard is further expanding its existence.

Samsung is introducing HDR10 + to set-top boxes and games by partnering with Amazon, KT and Nvidia. HDR10 + games, announced at the end of 2021, will enter more televisions and game displays. South Korean telecom operator KT is bringing real-time HDR10 + video streams through a new set-top box, which is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple, which has favored Dolby Horizon for years, recently added HDR10 + support to Apple TV + apps on Apple TV 4K (third generation) and smart TVs. Last month, Nvidia revealed that it will bring support for HDR10 + on game notebooks and PC that use GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX 16 series graphics cards. Samsung also launched HDR10 + adaptive technology last year to compete with Dolby Horizon IQ.

Samsung claims that since the establishment of HDR10 +, a technology company that provides certification and testing in 2018, 142 member companies around the world have launched more than 6000 certified products.

However, Dolby Vision has still shown faster growth over the past few years than HDR10 +, thanks to the promotion of Apple and non-Samsung TV brands. It is rumored that HDR10 may include Google + in a wider range of HDR video and multidimensional audio brands to compete with Dolby Panorama and Dolby Vision.
