CTOnews.com, December 9, a new feature of Linux Kernel 6.1 is to enable HID++ support for all Logitech Bluetooth devices, not limited to specified models. However, after some users reported that the mouse did not work properly because of Linux 6.1, the Linux team announced the cancellation of the change.

CTOnews.com learned that HID++ is a Logitech protocol based on HID, which is currently supported by most Logitech keyboards / mice. HID++ provides more features than the standard HID protocol, such as support for onboard profiles, force feedback, RGB effects, high-resolution scrolling, repeatable programmable controls, and so on. People want to enable HID++, by default for all Logitech Bluetooth devices, so they were incorporated during the window merge period two months ago.

In the team's previous vision, devices that did not support HID++ could fall back to normal HID driver updates. But this was not the case, so the Linux team removed this feature at the last minute of the 6.1 release.

The HID regression repair request released today states: "regression repair (revert) for the overall handling of Logitech HID++ Bluetooth devices; some devices cannot cooperate with it, and the root cause has not been correctly understood. So we have temporarily abandoned this issue and will rediscuss it in version 6.2 or 6.3.
