CTOnews.com December 16, Imagination Technologies announced that the company has been upgraded to RISC-V International Senior member and will continue to promote the development of the RISC-V ecosystem. After upgrading to a senior member, Shreyas Derashri, vice president of Imagination Computing, will join the board of directors of RISC-V International.

This year, Imagination released its first commercial RISC-V core, real-time IMG RTXM-2200 CPU.

Imagination offers a wide range of GPU, AI accelerators and CPU cores to help transform the market to heterogeneous system-on-chip (SoC). The recently released Catapult CPU series extends the RISC-V ecosystem and is built for a variety of market applications. All Imagination GPU are compatible with RISC-V SoC, giving customers complete control over their heterogeneous designs.

After this membership upgrade, Imagination will bring key knowledge and technologies in the field of heterogeneous computing and IP to the community, and eventually provide chip designers with more choices and help open up the future of RISC-V.

Imagination is a UK-based company dedicated to building semiconductor and software intellectual property (IP). The company's graphics processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies achieve outstanding PPA (power, performance and area) metrics, fast time to market and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Imagination IP-based products are used by billions of people around the world in their mobile phones, cars, homes and workplaces.

CTOnews.com learned that RISC-V International is a non-profit organization that manages the open standard RISC-V instruction set Architecture (ISA), relevant specifications, and communities of interested parties. RISC-V members now have more than 3180 members in 70 countries, working together to contribute to RISC-V open specification development and to convene and manage relevant technical, industry, domain and alliance groups. RISC-V combines a modular technical approach with an open, free licensing model so that anyone, anywhere can benefit from the intellectual property contributed and generated by RISC-V. RISC-V enables communities to jointly invest in technology, drive future strategic development, create more quickly, enjoy unprecedented design freedom, and greatly reduce the cost of innovation.
