CNNC said that this is the first time that China has used electromagnetic method to separate strontium 88 isotopes and meet the requirements of the separation index, which fills the domestic gap and solves the situation that strontium 89 medical isotope materials have been completely dependent on imports for a long time. It has effectively enhanced the domestic preparation capacity of high-abundance stable isotopes in China.

CTOnews.com learned that strontium 89 can be used to relieve pain caused by bone metastasis of cancer. Strontium 89 is a radiopharmaceutical with good pain relief effect, which is mainly prepared by reactor irradiation of high abundance strontium 88.

According to CNNC, at present, there is a great demand for high abundance strontium in China in 1988. In order to solve the situation of long-term dependence on import of this isotope raw material in China, the innovation team of isotope electromagnetic separation technology of Comprehensive Institute of Nuclear Technology of Atomic Energy Institute carried out research on the key technology of electromagnetic separation of high abundance strontium isotopes, and finally broke through the technical bottleneck and obtained strontium 88 isotope samples whose abundance and purity reached the index. The feasibility of separating high abundance strontium 88 isotopes by electromagnetic method was verified, and the production and preparation process system of strontium 89 isotopes was improved.
